The license for the True North training records software and its open source components.

1. Parties and scope
This Software License is between True North LMS LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("True North", "we"), and the organization that subscribes to the True North training records software ("you"). It applies together with our Terms of Service and your order, quote, or agreement with us (an "Order"). "Software" means the True North application, its updates, installers, and documentation.
2. License grant
For the term of your subscription and subject to payment of the fees in your Order, we grant you a non exclusive, non transferable, non sublicensable license to install and run the Software, or to use the instance we host for you, for your organization's internal business purposes, for the number of stations in your Order. A station is each shop entered in the Software's Shop registry. You may let your employees and contractors use the Software on your behalf, and you are responsible for their use.
3. Restrictions
Except where an open source license in section 6 gives you the right, you must not: copy the Software beyond what is needed to run, back up, and test it under this license; sell, rent, sublicense, or host the Software for anyone outside your organization; remove notices of ownership; or reverse engineer the Software except to the extent the law allows despite this restriction.
4. Ownership
We and our licensors own the Software. You own your data, including training records, documents, and records produced by the Software from your data, such as training record PDFs and forms.
5. Updates and support
During your subscription you receive updates that we release for your plan, and support as described in your Order. For self hosted installs, you choose when to apply updates. For hosted instances, we apply them for you.
6. Training Library
The Software includes the True North Training Library, courses written and published by True North LMS LLC. Fifteen of them, the open safety set named in the library, are licensed to everyone under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license: use, share, and adapt them with credit to True North LMS LLC. Every other course is licensed, not sold. For the term of a subscription or license that includes them (the Station and Network plans, the library add-on on the Shop plan, or a self hosted license) you may use them for the training of your own personnel at the stations named in your Order Form, present them inside the Software, print the student guides and instructor decks for those personnel, and keep the training records made from them for as long as you wish. You may not copy the courses outside the Software, redistribute, resell, publish, or sublicense them, offer them to personnel of another organization, remove the credits, or use them to build a competing library. When the subscription ends the right to use the courses ends; the records made from them remain yours. Course content is checked against the sources each course lists, on the date each course states; the courses support your training program and do not replace your manuals, your procedures, or the training your regulator requires, and you are responsible for confirming that a course fits your operation.
7. Open source and third party components
The Software includes components licensed by their authors under their own licenses. Nothing in this license limits your rights under those licenses. The main components are:
- FastAPI, Gunicorn, PyJWT, python-pptx, python-docx, pdfplumber, pdf2image, and Bootstrap Icons, under the MIT License;
- Uvicorn, Jinja2, HTTPX, qrcode, ReportLab, and pypdf, under BSD licenses;
- python-multipart, Bleach, pytesseract, and pypdfium2 (PDFium), under the Apache License 2.0 and BSD;
- Pillow, under the HPND license;
- the Sora, Manrope, Inter, Archivo, and Dancing Script fonts, under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
License texts for the fonts are included with the Software in assets/fonts. Other license texts are available from each project and on request.
8. Term and termination
This license lasts for the term of your subscription. It ends when the subscription ends or if your Order is terminated for breach. When it ends, you must stop using the Software, and for self hosted installs uninstall it, but you keep your data and every record, PDF, and export the Software produced. Records issued while your license was active remain your records.
9. Warranty and liability
The warranty disclaimers and limits on liability in the Terms of Service apply to this license.
