About

Built by a maintainer who has stood on the other side of the audit

True North is a veteran owned company. It exists because the person who built it kept training records the hard way, watched good shops produce findings over paperwork, and decided the station deserved software written by someone who had been in the room.

Why it exists

Most repair stations keep their training program in three places: a binder that is right on the day of the visit, a spreadsheet that is right on the day it was last touched, and a manual that describes a program nobody quite runs. None of it is dishonest. It is what happens when the records live apart from the work, and it is where findings come from.

True North keeps the program, the records, the roster, the manual and the binders in one system, so the question an inspector asks ("show me this person's record, and show me they were current on the day they signed that work order") is a minute's work instead of an afternoon's. Every module names the rule it serves, the AC 145-10 and AS9110 crosswalks are published in full, and the audit readiness check asks the twenty questions we would ask if we were visiting you.

Who is behind it

David Burton, founder

Ten years in aircraft maintenance, military and contract, first with the tools and then in quality control, where the training records became his problem to defend. A U.S. Air Force veteran. Completed AS9110 lead auditor training, so the clauses a registrar samples (competence, awareness, documented information, corrective action, internal audit) are written into the product from the auditor's side of the table, not guessed at from the software side.

He still answers support. When you write in about your program, the reply comes from someone who has filled in the forms you are asking about.

How we work

  • Support is included in every plan. Email on business days, first response within one business day; an outage is worked at once, on any day. A defect is fixed as soon as a fix is ready.
  • Releases are announced. A feature release is announced 30 days ahead and installed in your maintenance window, after it has run on our demo first. Our status page shows every instance's state and the last 30 days of notices.
  • Your data is yours. Export at any time inside the product; when a term ends you receive a verified backup archive and the PDF binders within ten days, and our copies are deleted 90 days later.
  • Hosted instances are backed up every day, verified, with an off-site copy and a yearly restore drill. Each customer runs on its own instance; nothing is shared between stations.
  • Prices are on the page, per station per month, with the plan sizes stated. There is no quote step for the standard plans.

What we are not

True North is not the FAA and is not FAA approved, FAA certified, or endorsed by the FAA; the FAA approves a repair station's training program under 14 CFR 145.163, and True North produces the manual you submit and keeps the records the approved program requires. We are not a registrar: AS9110 certification comes from an accredited registrar after it audits how you work, and the software aligns with the clauses it samples. We are not consultants who write your program for you, though the audit readiness check, the help inside the product and the sample manual get most stations most of the way.
